Liposuction

Liposuction

Let’s Reshape Your Body With Liposuction.

Liposuction means fat suction. It is a procedure which permanently removes fat tissues which caused an un-anaesthetic appearance, contour and shape deformity. Although in old plastic surgery books Liposuction method is mentioned as a “procedure which is not a weight loss surgery”, with the help of developing technology and in scientific publications of today, liposuction is now classified as “one of the methods of weight loss surgery”. In other words, even though it is not implemented for whole body weight loss, excellent results can be achieved for motivational purposes of overweight patients and applied in sessions ranging from 2-6 months.

Say ‘Hi’ to A New Look With Liposuction

As you are examining yourself in front of the mirror you notice the excess fat in your waist, stomach, thigh, leg, knee, arm and back areas. You have done diets, you did sports, spent a small fortune for area thinning appliances but you still haven’t obtained the look you wish to achieve. The solution is now very easy. We invite you to reshape your body contours with Liposuction.

Am I A Good Candidate For Liposuction?

Together we stand in front of a mirror and begin the examination and start determining excess fat areas. In order to achieve a holistic appearance we re-examine some areas you may have missed. Then we look at your skin elasticity. If there is too much elasticity loss then we will have two choices. We can add the ‘state of the art’ VASER or LASER to the Liposuction procedure or we can add skin tightening operation. If your skin elasticity is good then you are a good candidate for Liposuction.

Are Liposuction Results Permanent?

Definitely. In this procedure we remove a large number of fat cells and receptors from that area completely. For example even if you gain 25-30 kilos your body will now have a homogenous fat gain and you never experience contour distortion ever again.

What Does the Success of Liposuction Depend On?

  • Liposuction is a procedure which should only be carried out by an experienced plastic surgeon.
  • The proper planning of the operation is very important. Instead of focusing on one area it is the latest trend to look at the whole body and shape the contour accordingly.
  • Choosing the right operation method. As I have mentioned above, sometimes we may need to benefit from the use of Vaser or Laser applications or implement skin tightening procedures in addition to Liposuction.
  • Adding diet and sport to your life style post op. After going through such trouble wouldn’t you want to protect your form after all???
  • The use of a corset is a must!!!! You will be asked to wear a corset day and night for a whole month. The reason for this is to ensure that the newly shaped skin bonds with the inner skin area properly.
  • Benefitting from the support of regular massaging, use of tightening devices and mesotherapy methods post op. Although the application of these methods cannot replace Liposuction in regards to area thinning they are very useful methods for rapid recovery and shape forming.

How Much Fat Can Be Removed With Liposuction?

The amount of fat which can be removed varies from person to person. Generally, the total amount of fat which can be removed in one session without affecting the heath is 3500-4000 cc. However, with the use of auxiliary devices it is possible to increase this amount up to 5000-6000 cc. The most important point that should not be confused is that these quantities are given in volumes. In other words removing 3000 cc of fat does not mean 3000 g of fat has been removed. Maybe you will lose 3-4 kilos after your op but your figure will have been shaped as if you have lost 15-25 kilos. Because of this, the question of ‘how much fat was removed from me’ is not the correct question in the evaluation of your operation. It must be remembered that the main aim is to correct the contours of the body. To go above board would mean putting your health at high risk. You also have to wait a few months, for the swellings to go down and for the skin to settle to its new form in order to be able to see definitive results. However, it will be possible to see how well you are shaped even when wearing the corset immediately after your surgery.

Anaesthesia in Liposuction

The type of anaesthesia to be given is determined by the operation area and the amount of fat to be removed. Local anaesthesia, sedation assisted local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia may be applied depending on the operation area and the fat amount to be removed. Again, depending on the area and the amount of fat which will be removed, you may be discharged on the same day or stay in hospital overnight.

How Is Liposuction Operation Performed?

On the morning of the operation we mark the body areas which we will be applying liposuction on and take photographs of the body. Once we have finished taking the photographs we begin to operate. Through very tiny holes and with fine infiltration cannulas we start injecting tumescent fluid to the operation area. This is a special serum that contains anti-bleeding and local anaesthetic agents in it. After applying this serum we wait for 15-20 minutes and start by inserting aspiration cannula through the same tiny holes and remove the dissolved fat via aspiration method. We then proceed to conclude the operation by making final shape/contour corrections and applying a single suture to each tiny procedure incisions made. We put the corset on you before you wake up from your anaesthesia.

How Long Does Liposuction Procedure Last?

Depending on the operation area and the amount of fat to be removed, the liposuction procedure can vary from 1 to 3 hours.  And of course, if a vaser or a laser is to be used the application time for these will also need to be added on. These additional applications add from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours to Liposuction operation duration.

Why Should I Wear A Corset?

We want you to wear a corset to reduce post op swelling and to prevent water build up beneath the skin. Almost acting like an iron so to speak, the corset is the most effective factor for adapting the skin to its new shape and position. For this reason please use your corset for a month without fail. In order to increase the success of the operation even more we also highly recommend that the use of the corset is continued with for one more extra month- to be put on either during the day or the night. You can remove your corset when you have a bath/shower and put it back on afterwards.

What Will Happen/ What Should I Expect After The Operation?

In the first 24-48 hours after your procedure the excess fat which were not aspirated and the given serum may leak from the tiny incisions made. This leakage may be perceived as bleeding by the patient or relatives. However, this is not bleeding. This ‘discharge’ as described is actually better for you as opposed to its accumulation within.  You will be discharged on the same day or the next day with basic painkillers. In actual fact you will not feel much pain initially due to the local aesthesia given prior to your operation. You may experience slight pains the next day; however these will disappear within the next 2-3 days completely. The usage of basic painkiller will help ease your pains in this duration.

You may experience oedema (fluid retention) from the second day of your operation. This fluid retention will start decreasing within ten days and will almost disappear within a month of the operation leaving in its place a slight hardness. Again, this hardness will almost disappear between the 2nd and 3rd months leaving behind the new shape of the skin.

Massages, mesotheraphy and tightening devices are highly effective in getting rid of these hardened areas rapidly.

Post op bruising is very normal and like the oedema will go away by itself in 10-15 days. Creams will be recommended to get rid of the bruising quickly.

Can Cellulite Be Reduced with Liposuction?

Liposuction will definitely reduce the appearance of cellulite but will not get rid of it completely. Liposuction is not a cellulite treatment and only provides the additional benefit of reducing cellulite appearance. I can provide additional information of sectional cellulite treatments.

Can Fat Re-Form After Liposuction?

You will never gain fat in the same areas to the level where it will distort the shape and the contour of the body. Even if you regain weight again the fat gain will be in a homogeneous manner, meaning the fat will distribute itself evenly throughout the whole body.

Will There Be Scarring in Liposuction?

The tiny incisions made during the procedure will become invisible to the eye over a period of time. I will recommend creams to fade the incision lines more rapidly.
